Most ironic finds in my bedroom- Day Three

So, today I mostly concentrate my 40 item purge in our bedroom. Amongst the items was a huge stack of magazines and books. Clearly, I never looked too closely at any of these. And no, I haven't purged them.

Yet.

I have set up an Amazon shop for some of the items (books, DVDs, etc.) to resell them. All proceeds will go to Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk I am doing this September with some friends. If you are interested, you can check out the link here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/shops/storefront/index.html?ie=UTF8&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sellerID=ARQW5OGEEIVDV

I have a busy day tomorrow, so I will post today's items after a good night's sleep and morning selling cookies with my daughter. But, I got rid of over 40 items today!

Proof I Need an Intervention

This is unbelievably hard for me to do. It's no secret that I am not a neat freak or organized. However, posting these pictures is like shouting from the rooftops, "I live in a pig sty!"

On to the pictorial proof.

The living room from the kitchen: not the worst, at first glance.

But the corners all have junk in them.

The junk collector counter.
Yes, those are fall/Thanksgiving art projects on the cabinets.

Day Two

So, I did get everything pulled together last night after the kids went to bed, but I was too tired to post. Between cranky kids, volunteer hours at my son's preschool, working on fundraising stuff for Girl Scouts/school and The 3 Day... I just want to relax and catch up on Glee!

I realize that I need to come up with a plan, to be even more intentional about this. To start with one room, move onto the next, etc.

Onto the list:

1. big mug
2. cute little Pumas (toddler size 7)
3. denim jumper
4. halloween costume
5. onesie
6. onesie
7. bib
8. bathing suit (girls size 5)
9. pj pants
10. skirt (girls size 7- by the time it fits my daughter in the waist, it will be way too short!!!)
11. cable knit sweater- 18 months
12. rachael ray mag
13. rachael ray mag
14. chatelaine mag
15. boulevard mag
16. oprah mag
17. everyday food mag
18. klutz guide to birthday parties for birthday girls
19. real simple family mag
20. cooking light mag
21. cooking light
22. cooking light
23. canadian living magazine
24. cooking light
25. cooking light
26. book: The Appeal, Grisham
27. book: Solving the Puzzle of Your Hard to Raise Child
28. book: Dead before Dark
29. coat: Eddie Bauer, womens large
30-65: various socks, bibs and other newborn stuff.

I found this much harder today. I had to force myself to do it.

I remind myself that most of the stuff I want in the magazines I can look up online. I don't need to have them cluttering my house, collecting dust.

Onto day three...

Day One

Today was easy, I came up with 40 items in less than five minutes. And no, my 40 items weren't just 40 pieces of junk mail!

Some items were harder to get rid of than others. I have a really hard time letting go of my kids' clothing and stuff, even though our family is complete and I will not be needing it again. I can remember who gave Punkin that dress, or where we were when we picked something out for Sir Chubbs. There are special memories attached to each item.

Some things, like my kids toys, super easy! Especially the noisy, annoying ones!

I will post pictures, knowing this blog is anonymous. There are rooms of my house which are like a bad episode of Hoarders. It's embarrassing to put it all out there for the world to read. But, I do so in hopes that someone else like me sees it and is (hopefully!) inspired by what I am doing. That they know they can do it too.

And, I signed up for The 3 Day today! Hopefully I can lose (at least) 40 lbs while training for it. Any "stuff" I sell, I will put the money towards my fundraising for the event.

Onto today's Operation 1600 items:

1. kelty kid backpack (found a home for it too!)
2. fisher-price animal train
3. steering wheel toy
4. pooh stuffie that talks
5. craft supply- pillowcase
6. craft supply- pillowcase
7. broken (!) tiara
8. stuffed monkey (an advertisement for something)
9. transformer (after I stepped on it, OUCH!)
10. toy keys, that make way too much noise!
11. stuffed duck that quacks songs (want it? Yeh, me neither!)
12. plastic elephant
13. Mary Engelbreit cookie cookbook (can't eat wheat, why bother keeping!?)
14. Book: Lark and Termite
15. Book: Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister
16. Book: Everybody in the Pool
17. Book: Capital Crimes
18. book: Super Baby Food
19. book: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell
20. book: Dear John
21. Book: Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons
22. pink flamingo toy
23. pink sundress (one of my favourites of Punkin's)
24. pink princess bathrobe
25. denim jumper
26. gingham sundress
27. heart bathing suit
28. tinkerbell nightie
29. pink dress
30. leggings for said dress
31. pink plaid blouse
32. white shirt
33. April Cornell jumper (darling- hard to part with, but know it's going to a good home)
34. red sweater
35. play pants
36. sweat pants
37. penguin PJs
38. penguin PJs
39. orange t-shirt
40. brown shirt

Going to drop a load off to Goodwill tomorrow after preschool. I know if I get it out of the house right away, I won't be tempted to go back and take something out. I speak from experience.

40 Items a day X 40 days= 1600 items

After wracking my brain about what to give up for Lent, I decided upon getting rid of 40 items a day. Some of these items will find new homes with friends who need them, be donated to Goodwill, be taken to University Bookstore for cash or otherwise recycled. For those who know me well, this is going to be hard. I am attached to stuff. Especially sentimental stuff like greeting cards. I will post some "before" pictures. It's not gonna be pretty. I won't lie. I'm very embarrassed to share them, but I will do so in hopes that someone is encouraged by my journey.

I will also keep track of what I am "tossing", my own version of freecycle. If you see an item you want that isn't spoken for, I am happy give it away. Obviously, some stuff will just be trash, but one (wo)man's trash, is another's treasure!

Stay tuned for tonight's list.
